The Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Voluntary Stakeholder Group on Disaster Risk Reduction, Arab States, participated in the Africa-Arab Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction in Tunisia October 9 to 13 2018. It affirmed its commitment to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015, with particular focus on women’s participation in managing risk and in designing and implementing woman-responsive Disaster Risk Reduction related policies, plans and programs that build women’s resilience to disasters. Goal . The primary goal of the Arab Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Voluntary Stakeholder Group is to strengthen Arab cooperation at the national and regional levels to support implementation of the Sendai framework in the region keeping gender equality and women’s empowerment central to implementation. Further it will establish links with the international community in the field of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment to contribute to disaster risk reduction and related agendas, climate change mitigation and adaptation and migration in a harmonized way. Objective . Towards the above end, the Arab Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Voluntary Stakeholder Group will promote and mainstream gender equality, women’s protection and empowerment in a harmonized way into disaster risk reduction and response; climate change mitigation and adaptation and migration strategies to achieve the sustainable development goals.
